Bruce Lee Wax Figure Unveiling at Madame Tussauds (Hollywood)

Tech tipsComputer Tricks

Madame Tussauds in Hollywood unveiled the wax figure for my father late last week.   Here’s a little video from the event.  The museum is pretty trippy - the figures range from Snoop Dog to James Dean to President Obama.  I will let you judge the likeness of my dad’s figure for yourself :).

Ahhhh Bruce would have been 70 and a healthy and vibrant 70 I’m sure. I will have to go check out the wax but it seems to be a bit off model.

Anyway, I wanted to share a little something with you guys. Not sure who of you out there has Firefox personas but I’ve made a Bruce Lee persona and I hope you all like it. It’s a little silhouette of Lee, in my absolute favorite pose of his. I had to look really hard to find a picture of it.. For some reason it’s not easy to find this image on the web…

Anyway, I hope you all like it, I did it for love, for the man who affected my life in many ways through the years. Who more than anything reminded me time and again, there is always more to life, even when you don’t think there is.

    Yin and Yang

Bruce brought a fresh idea to the concept in my opinion. Normally, the Yin/Yang stresses harmony. Bruce took the concept and intellectually applied it in a most extreme way. The harmony is still there, but the harmony he is talking about is the simultaneous coexistence of unnaturalness and naturalness. As Bruce said ”it is a successful combination of both” e.g., “unnatural-naturalness or natural-unnaturalness”. It served him well and made him money. So, Bruce took this concept of Yin/Yang and harmony and applied it in a physical and concrete way. He melded the concept to action. He is talking about a state of being.

He electrified the concept with blinding speed which is natural (yet unnatural compared to the status-quo) and power which is unnatural, yet executed naturally. I don’t need to be on the receiving end of Bruce’s kick to understand that the man was the real thing. Every move, every action – he knew what he was doing. You can see it in his physical language when he goes to work. No movements are wasted. They are all precise, scientific, natural and done with grace. It’s elegant in its simplicity – the beauty lies in its simplicity.

“Hack away at the unessential” Bruce would say – “no fancy movement” e.g., no unnecessary movement. Bruce knew what he was doing. It is reflected in his philosophy as well. To paraphrase Bruce: I don’t fear the man who can execute one thousand different kicks; the one to fear is the man who practiced 1 kick, one thousand times.

And now a reflection on violence and the media’s glorification of it:
    It’s not cool.

    Good video Thai,

A lot of what that gentleman is saying is true. Street fighting = no rules.
Right, forget your trophies - keep them. there are no rules in street fighting.
Bruce married philosophy to the martial art.
Bruce was always training. Bruce was a street fighter. He knew that a real fight should
not last for more than two seconds. In a street fight, the opponent has but one goal, and that is to destroy you as quickly as possible.

    As a counterpoint to this:
the world is a violent place. Fights are not a fun thing. It’s not fun getting ones face broken open, and feeling the rush of pain while blood spurts from open wounds and one suffers compound fractures or a broken nose. It’s not a good thing. Yet, people glorify violence. There is a big difference between watching it on TV or in the movie theaters, and experiencing the destructive reality of violence firsthand, as well as its consequences. For example: some people suddenly find themselves in a physical fight. Once its over,
many may realize that they don’t have medical insurance to pay for their injury, and wonder how they got
themselves into such a terrible situation in the first place. If that person is smart, he or she may
even feel lucky if they didn’t get incarcerated, sued, stabbed, shot or killed.

    Fighting is just stupid.

    No weight classes, no rules…
The paper-tiger that walks away is the smart one in my humble opinion.

Why not just pull out a .45 and bang, settle it?
Bruce Lee, Enter the Dragon quote.

…any bloody fool can pull a trigger
    - Braithwaithe, Enter the Dragon quote.

  19. Ronnie says:

Hi to all could you tell me if there is Bruce lee wax figure in London. Madame Tussauds?
. If not i think should be one!

  20. Miodrag says:

Although it is true that no one and no figure can do justice to such a great man as Bruce was, I’m afraid that the artist missed your dad’s facial expression, and if there wasn’t for the costume and the recognizable pose, I wouldn’t actually know who the statue represents. As I big fan of Bruce Lee as a martial artist and a great man and an admirer of what he has done for the world of martial art, I know that he would be very proud of you, and we all know that you are doing your best to keep his memory alive. Thank you very much Shannon. :))
